VoIP Hardware: VoIP Routers

VoIP hardware includes items such as VoIP routers, VoIP phone handsets, hands-free speaker phones, VoIP wi-fi phones and headsets and microphones suitable for individuals and call centres.  Anything, in fact not regarded as the software which makes the electronics work is classed as VoIP hardware.

VoIP Routers
VoIP routers allow you to use VoIP on your computer and over your conventional phone lines.  You need not even have your computer switched on since they generally include an ADSL modem, and some include Wi-Fi. Without the VoIP routers, yo could not use VoIP.  Another name for VoIP routers, which will find elsewhere on this website is VoIP gateways.

Some VoIP routers are suitable for network connections, and can accommodate multiple computers and phone connections, as well as providing firewall security.  They can also provide features such as caller ID (number and/or name), voice mail, call waiting, and three way calling. VoIP hardware is capable of providing what mobile phone technology can provide.

Password security can also be introduced, allowing businesses to restrict VoIP access to selected individuals.

In the UK you can check out VoIP hardware, including routers, at wifigear.co.uk.

VoIP Phone Handsets, etc.
There is actually no need to go over all the features available in VoIP phone sets since they are nothing less than what is available from mobile phone technology. VoIP phones can be either connected to your normal land-line cable or your internet connection, whether it be ADSL, cable, Wi-Fi or the not-so-common satellite. The type of connection determines the type of phone, and frequently the features possible, but VoIP can be operated without handsets.

All you need is an internet connection and a means of sending and receiving voice signals:  i.e. a microphone and earpiece.  That, in fact, is what a VoIP phone handset is.  A microphone and and earpiece.  The rest is peripheral and not actually necessary for telecommunications.

Therefore, the facilities available in any telephone design are also available in VoIP. Anything a cell phone can do can also be done with VoIP hardware.

Wifigear.co.uk also provide this type of VoIP hardware, and it is up to what you are willing to pay which determines the accessories and peripheral features and functions available on your handset.

If you do not yet have broadband, you are advised to get it for a number reasons apart from it being necessary for efficient VoIP.  Broadband National provides an excellent review service of the main North American providers here:
